BLACK WOMEN ARE SHOCKED
“I’m not shocked by the results. This is America..what’d you expect?!”As a black woman, I can honestly say it has been a coping mechanism to say “I’m not shocked” or “I had low/no expectations.” Truth is, I AM shocked. I DID expect more. I am hurt & I am tired of this being our narrative. In this country, in business, in the church, in our homes. We always nurture, fix, & make things better. We always brighten & lighten for others. We are always much more qualified & willing.
We are always in search of a safe space to be all of these things…to operate in our giftedness and be valued for it. But instead, we are overlooked, dismissed, & despised. That’s our truth in America & we’re not weak for being shocked by that.
